“Sweet Flossie Farmer” Elsie Carlisle, 1935 (Lyrics)

“Sweet Flossie Farmer (the Lovely Snake Charmer)” is a song featured in the old cartoon, “Hollywood Capers.” On Youtube, you can find a clip of Little Kitty singing the first verse of this song.

Here is photo of Little Kitty:

And Elsie Carlisle recorded the entire song in 1935, which was released on the Decca Label #5524.  I wish I had that record.   Adding it to my wishlist today!

But for Pete’s sake try to find the full lyrics for this song!  Not easy!
Very thankfully, I happen to have the sheet music, thanks to http://www.vintageukemusic.com/

And here are the lyrics:

“Sweet Flossie Farmer” Elsie Carlisle, 1935 (Lyrics)

Ah
ah
ah
ah
She was a charmer of snakes

Fe
Fi
Fo
Fum
He was a trainer of animals

She had the face of an angel
And she had the heart of a saint
He had the smile of a devil
And a heart as black as paint
He paid his addresses and begged for caresses
And that’s what he finally got

Oh me!
Oh my!
She learned to care a lot

Oh!
No rattler could rip ‘er
No Python could nip ‘er
For she was the last word in class
Sweet Flossie Farmer, The Lovely Snake Charmer
Who fell for a snake in the grass

She shunned all the geezers on flying trapeezes
And let all the acrobats pass
Sweet Flossie Farmer, The Lovely Snake Charmer
Went BOOM! for a snake in the grass

She didn’t care for his Rhinoceroses,
Ja-de-ah-ta,
Ja-de-ah-ta
Zing tra la!

She didn’t care for his Hippopotamuses,
Ja-de-ah-ta,
Ja-de-ah-ta
Oo-la-la

She flittered and fluttered
At each word he uttered
The scoundrel had plenty of brass
But when they started kissing
The snakes started hissing
For he was a snake in the grass.

No boa constrictor
Has slapped ‘er or kicked ‘er
She had them all doped up with gas
But Sweet Flossie Farmer, The Lovely Snake Charmer
Was doped by a snake in the grass

The dwarves and the giants
cried out their defiance
They saw thru her lover like glass
But Sweet Flossie Farmer, The Lovely Snake Charmer
Was nerts for a snake in the grass.

She didn’t care for his Sea-lion-ess-es,
Ja-de-ah-ta,
Ja-de-ah-ta
Zing ding dong!

She didn’t care for his Kangaroos-a-mus-ses
Ja-de-ah-ta,
Ja-de-ah-ta
Zing! Ping! pong

She swore she’d obey him
Her salary pay him
The snakes overheard the poor lass
And it isn’t surprising
They filled him with “pizen”
For he was a snake in the grass!
